How Our Prints Are Sized
When you choose a print from Repro Depot, one decision matters more than any other:
How the image is placed on the page.
This page explains, in simple terms, how our prints are prepared, what the available sizes mean, and what happens when an image doesn’t naturally match a standard format.
Our Available Print Sizes
Repro Depot prints are offered in the following sizes:
- 8 × 10
- 11 × 14
- 12 × 18
- 16 × 20
- Up to 17 × 22
These are standard, widely used print and framing sizes. They’re chosen because they work well in real homes, real frames, and real spaces.
Each size describes the paper size or print area—not a shape we force every image to follow.
Our Standard Approach: Show the Entire Image
By default, all Repro Depot prints are prepared to show the entire image.
This means:
- The image keeps its original proportions
- Nothing is stretched or distorted
- No part of the image is cut off
- The artwork is centered on the page
- If needed, clean margins may appear around the image
Those margins are intentional. They exist to preserve the artwork exactly as it is.
We do this because cropping is a decision—and we don’t make that decision for you unless you ask us to.
Why We Don’t Crop by Default
Many images—especially historical works—were not created to fit modern paper sizes exactly.
Cropping even a small amount means choosing what part of the image can be sacrificed. That might be the sky, the ground, a figure, or a detail.
Rather than making those choices silently, we preserve the full composition by default. What you see is the complete image.
This is common practice in museums, portfolios, and study prints, where visible margins are expected and respected.
Optional: Edge‑to‑Edge Printing
If you prefer a look where the image fills the page completely, we also offer an edge‑to‑edge option.
When this option is selected:
- The image fills the page from edge to edge
- The image still keeps its proportions
- Some cropping may occur to make the image fit
- Cropping happens evenly from the center
This approach creates a bold, modern presentation—but it does remove parts of the image at the edges.
That’s why it’s always optional and never the default.
Choosing What’s Right for You
Here’s a simple way to think about the two options:
Show the Entire Image (Standard)
- Nothing is cut off
- Original composition stays intact
- Margins may appear
- Best for fidelity and completeness
Edge‑to‑Edge Printing (Optional)
- Page is filled completely
- Image may be cropped
- Strong visual impact
- Best for format‑first presentation
Neither choice is “better.”
The important thing is that you choose knowingly.
Why Sizes Don’t All Match Perfectly
Some print sizes naturally share the same proportions. Others don’t.
Rather than forcing every image into a single shape, we allow images to adapt naturally within each size. That’s why some prints may have more margin than others.
This keeps images honest and prevents distortion or hidden edits.
Centered by Design
All prints are centered on the page.
- Margins are balanced
- Cropping is symmetrical when chosen
- No edge is favored over another
This ensures consistency, predictability, and visual balance.
A Simple Philosophy
We believe the artwork should lead the process—not the paper size.
That means:
- no silent cropping
- no automatic edits
- no guessing what was removed
Just clear choices, made visible.
